If acting isn't really your thing, but you still are really eager to be involved, then TECH!! Tonight at 6:30pm at the Space (949B Commonwealth Ave/Akimbo Road in the alleyway behind Cane's)we'll be having our Spring 2012 Tech Meeting!! Here you can listen to needs of each show and find out what interests you.

Stage Troupe's motto is "learning by doing," so no previous experience is required to tech, just sign up!

Remember you MUST BRING $5 to be able to Tech for Stage Troupe. Then you'll receive your nifty membership card and be an official Troupie! If you already paid your dues at auditions, then you are all set.

There are a few moments of singing in Speech & Debate, but there is no requirement that the characters be good singers. Do you have a passion for power tools?? Are you really eager to learn how to work a sound board or hang lights??? Then come to the tech meeting this Friday, January 27th at 6:30pm at the Space (right in the alleyway behind Cane's). Learn about the tech needs for our four great mainstages and see what position you want to tackle!

On April 20, 1999, in Littleton, Colorado, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold walked into Columbine High School and massacred 12 of their classmates and a teacher before turning their guns on themselves. The entire country was shocked and horrified, and filled with unanswered questions: Why did they do it? Who is responsible? How did they pull it off? The United States Theater Project muses on all of these questions in their explosive first play, columbinus. Composed of interviews of parents, survivors, and community leaders, police evidence, and recordings from the killers themselves, columbinus blends fact and fiction to take a brutally honest, often tragic look at the trials and tribulations of adolescence. Authors Stephen Karam and PJ Paparelli see the play as a “theatrical discussion” that brings to light the pain and insecurity of the American teenager, so that we can work to prevent the hate and fear from manifesting itself into another deadly attack.

All proceeds go to the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

Performances will be held March 1st-3rd at 8pm in the Student Theater.

FARRAGUT NORTH

SPEECH & DEBATE

A sex scandal has rocked the city of Salem, Oregon, and three high school misfits find themselves allied, for better or worse, as they attempt to bring down a teacher who preys on his students. The mayor’s been seducing underage boys in chat rooms, and after the newspaper publishes an exposé, sixteen year old wannabe journalist Solomon makes it his goal to take down another closeted pedophile—one who walks the halls of his high school. He seeks help from Diwata, who, on her blog, claims to have dirt on the drama teacher (but may just be angry she wasn’t cast in Once Upon a Mattress). She directs him to Howie, an openly gay transfer student from Portland who only wants to finish his senior year without anyone noticing he exists. Under the cover of a speech and debate team, these three very different teens band together in an attempt to take down the teacher, but in the process they each bring to the surface their own deeply guarded secrets. A dark comedy with five characters, Speech & Debate is a fast paced, poignant and laugh-out-loud funny examination of three people trying to straddle the line between adult ambition and adolescent bravado.

In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria” in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor’s laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new “hysterical” patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor’s home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone.

Performances will be held April 12th-14th at 8pm in the Student Theater.

Come to our fourth and final General Meeting of the Semester!

Here we'll be reminiscing about the season and voting for BUSTies!!! BUSTies are like the

Tony's, but with classier trophies and better categories. It's an awards ceremony held at the end of every school year where we recognize our friends for all of the endless hard work they put in this semester.

Also, it's just nice for everyone to get together one last time before
we die over finals and head off for winter break. (I may bring candy again...) SO COME!!!

***SPACE CLEANING IS THIS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4TH FROM 11AM-6PM***

Space Cleaning is a fun day when all the Troupies congregate with loud music and some brooms and CLEAN THE SPACE. SPACE CLEANING IS MANDATORY. You don't have to stay the ENTIRE time, but in order for the show you worked on to qualify for BUSTies everyone from that show must collectively contribute 40 hours of cleaning time. YES. It sounds a little daunting, but it's really one of the best days of the year. DON'T SKIP IT. IT WILL BE SO MUCH FUN.

So we can all hang out/clean at the space all day, EAT, and then go to the GM.

The Directors of the One Act 'Early Morning' are seeking one male to fill the role of Detective Diamantini in their show. The cast is only two people, it is a low time
commitment, and would be a great opportunity to explore a new acting role. If this

audition! It will be a cold reading, so just print out an audition form and bring your best!

***OUR THIRD GENERAL MEETING OF THE SEMESTER IS THIS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH AT 7PM IN THE STUDENT THEATER!!!***

This meeting is incredibly important as we will be VOTING ON THE SHOWS FOR OUR SPRING 2012 SEASON as well as ANNOUNCING OUR FALL ONE ACTS!!

Auditions for One Acts are set to take place Monday, November 7th- Wednesday November 9th, and the details of how they work/where they are/what they entail will be discussed in greater detail at the meeting.

If you wish to tech One Acts please email our TA Dani Freiberg at dsfreiberg@gmail.com. If you would like to produce, email our Treasurer Allie at alliero@bu.edu. One Acts is a great way to get involved in something small at the end of the semester with all of your friends, so don't be shy!

***ASSASSINS***

This is a really fun game of cat and mouse involving all Troupies. You are given a target and you must eliminate that target by 'killing' them (with a clothespin). It's insane, fun, and crazy, so SIGN UP!!! The only way you can sign up is by attending our next GM. I repeat....IF YOU DO NOT COME TO THE GM YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY ASSASSINS (unless you bribe Marcus with a latte). You will regret it, I assure you.

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC

Please join Stage Troupe in celebrating Parents Weekend 2011 with the production of this Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler masterpiece, recently revived on Broadway starring Academy Award winner Catherine Zeta Jones. With a breathtaking score including the staple “Send in the Clowns” and a book full of romance, comedy, and passion, A Little Night Music is sure to captivate an audience of students and parents alike.

It is the turn-of-the-century Scandinavia. Middle-aged Fredrik Egerman brings his young wife Anne to a play starring “the one and only” Desiree Armfeldt. It is soon revealed that Desiree and Frederik are in fact former lovers. The two begin to rekindle their romance, enraging Desiree’s current lover, a pompous Count. In her attempts to win Fredrik back, the actress has her sage mother invite the Egerman family to their county estate. This “Weekend in the Country” brings together Frederik, Anne, Desiree and the Count, as well as Fredrik's son, Desiree's daughter, the Count's scathing wife, and the Egermans' lusty maid. With the beautiful estate as a backdrop, love is discovered and reawakened, and the night smiles upon the young and the old.

It is August 1947 in the backyard of the Keller residence, located in the outskirts of an American town. While Joe carries around this burden of guilt, his wife, Kate, is haunted by nightmares of their missing son Larry. Their other son, Chris, wishes to marry childhood neighbor Ann, his brother Larry’s lover and daughter of Herbert, much to the dismay of Kate. Following the arrival of Ann’s bitter brother George, Joe's terrible secret is unveiled and the Keller household is turned upside down.

URGENT: Weather vs. Auditions

Hello all you talented thespians!

If you have been watching the weather today you may have seen that there is a big ol' storm headed our way Wednesday/Thursday. You may have also noticed that we are holding auditions on Wednesday. In the event that BU is closed due to weather on Wednesday, it is Stage Troupe's policy to also close (and BU won't let us use the facilities which means you would have to audition outside...). THEREFORE: We are strongly encouraging all able-bodied auditioners to audition TONIGHT (Tuesday) in lieu of tomorrow. This will make our/your lives all easier and happier in the event that it is stormy and disgusting and BU closes down. So hopefully we'll see most of you tonight in CAS 211 from 6-9pm!

As an addendum, if BU is cancelled on Wednesday the e-board is coming up with a contingency plan and you all will be notified immediately concerning further auditions/callbacks. As always, if you have any questions, please email stage@bu.edu, tweet at us, or comment on the blog.

Rabbit Hole Audition Information

Synopsis:

Becca and Howie Corbett are a happily married couple whose perfect world is forever changed when their young son, Danny, is killed by a car. Becca has become numb, cutting herself off from anything that reminds her of Danny, including her husband. Howie desperately tries to salvage the couple’s relationship, but the distance between them keeps growing. Everything changes for the Corbetts when Jason, the teenage driver of the car that killed Danny, arrives at their house seeking solace. Poignant, truthful, and often funny, Rabbit Hole examines the ways in which tragedy impacts our daily lives, and how we must eventually grow from it.

A Streetcar Named Desire: A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, follows the obstacles of southern belle, Blanche Dubois, after she is forced to move in with her sister Stella Kowalski when Blanche loses their childhood plantation, Belle Reve. Blanche is quickly at odds with Stella's brutish, yet attractive husband Stanley, who serves at the play's "anti-hero." The play ultimately looks at Blanche's attempt at survival in a world that no longer finds her relevant.

Pterodactyls: Pterodactyls is an absurdist black comedy about an upper-class family determined to maintain the facade of an ideal life, while harsh realities threaten to bring it down.

1. There is a new position to Stage Troupe tech known as "Will Wheeler". Originating from it's 6-foot plus tall namesake, this position is for a techie who may not have time to commit to a particular job, but still wants to help out with the show. The TD will put his/her "Will Wheeler(s)" on the email list and that person(s) may come when they have time and can lend a hand. ALUMNI WEEKEND is in two weeks and we need your help!

*We also need volunteers to do some IMPROV! One of our Troupies will be leading some

BYOB -Bring Your Own Broadway!

BU's premiere musical theatre group BU On Broadway will be hosting BYOB, their semiannual open mic event where everyone has the chance to get on stage and perform their favorite Broadway number!

Thursday, October 1st from 8 to 10 pm in BU Central (the basement of the GSU).

There will be a pianist to accompany all performances. So get up on stage and sing your heart out! You may sing alone, with a partner or with a small group. BRING YOUR FRIENDS! There will also be "sneak-peek" performances from the casts of The Rocky Horror Show and Broadway 180!

*We encourage all Troupies to go and join in on the fun. It's an open mic event, so there's no pressure to sing if you go. Just come and watch!
